- The design of the skull and symbol of ǝnígmǝ is based off that of late American murderer and body snatcher Ed Gein.
- Sumio's "Mayday" catchphrase and some of his speech from page 10 are derived from the lyrics of Japanese hard rock band B'z's song Mayday!.
- Sumio's Dream Diary is also said to have been based off of Reisuke Hōjō's "Hyper Vision Diary" in Mirai Nikki.
- The pervert seen chased away by Mina in chapter 1 resembles Faust from Guilty Gear. A portrait of Faust is also used as Kenji Sakaki's avatar in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. Faust can also be seen on the cake at Kenji Sakaki's wedding with Kyosuke Usuta.
