Enigma

The symbol of ǝnígmǝ.

ǝnígmǝ (エニグマ, Eniguma) is a skull-like object that supposedly grants whoever can possess it their wishes. A person who possesses the skull successfully may also adopt ǝnígmǝ as an alias of their own identity. Kei Sūki's database also identifies the person who owns the ǝnígmǝ skull as the Mysterious Patterned-Hand Person (手型の怪人, Tegata no kaijin).

From before the Yūyami High School festival in 2007 to the end of the fifth e-test, Kirio Imizuka possessed and took on the identity of ǝnígmǝ, becoming the secret mastermind behind the mysterious e-tests. Up to the end of the fifth e-test, Kirio plotted to give ǝnígmǝ away to someone worthy of it to act as a decoy from an unknown presence chasing him. Sumio Haiba, his old childhood friend, volunteered. Currently, he is the one possessing and taking on the identity of ǝnígmǝ.

Initially, it was implied that Yūta Kijima may have taken on the true identity of ǝnígmǝ as he is revealed to be carrying the same pattern on his right hand at times. However, it was eventually revealed that this was not the case, as Kijima only had the pattern on the front of his hand, a sign of ǝnígmǝ's rejection of being possessed by him.

Overview

Enigma Skull

The physical form of ǝnígmǝ.

A person can possess ǝnígmǝ as soon as they hold the skull in their hands. The possessor of ǝnígmǝ acquires a checkered pattern on both sides of their right hand and allows them to "become" ǝnígmǝ and use its supposed powers. As stated by Kirio Imizuka's and Yūta Kijima's father, ǝnígmǝ is supposedly able to grant its possessor all their wishes. However, this is yet to be proven.

ǝnígmǝ can also reject some attempted possessors, as with Yūta Kijima. In this case, the attempted possessor acquires a checkered pattern on the front of their right hand only and does not "become" ǝnígmǝ at all.
